Markham Skaters Excel
Quebec City February 6-7

CLaire Liew

The Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Skating Championships were held in Quebec City, on the Gaetan Boucher Oval, February 7-8 2016.

Both Claire Liew and Ariz Lalani, both members of the Markham Speed Skating Club, competed in their respective age and gender classes.

Claire Liew competed in the Female Age-12 class, winning Gold in the class
with consistent finishes in all distances raced against
a total of 14 competitors in class from across Canada.

Claire won silver in the 300m, 500m, 3000m individual olympic-style events
as well as Silver as a member of the Ontario team 500m relay for 11-13 year-old females
with Kennedy Feasby and Rachel Mallard against 7 other teams.

Claire was the sole Ontario skater to capture a Gold in their competition class.
A fantastic achievement for which we congratulate Claire

Ariz Lalani, in his first National event, placed 13th overall
of 26 competitors in the 13 Year-old Male class. Ariz placed 9th in both 300m and 100m distances.
Ariz performed well as a relative newcomer to the Long Track format and excelled in a competitive class.
Congratulation to Ariz for representing Markham well.
